Metabolic Disorder Untreated, Guardian Claims
SAN DIEGO (CN) – An untreated metabolic disorder led to a boy’s stroke and brain damage, his guardian ad litem claims in San Diego County Superior Court.
Ahmad Sawah, by and through his guardian ad litem Abed Sawah, sued Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc., Kaiser Foundation Hospital, Southern California Permanente Medical Group, Saadia Kahn, M.D., Divya Vats, M.D. and Justin Mitchelson, M.D., for medical negligence.
According to the lawsuit, the defendant doctors did not follow appropriate procedures for treating Ahmad Sawah’s metabolic disorder, Glutaric Acidemia Type 1, during a time when childhood illness had caused a lowered food intake. As a result, his condition escalated to a metabolic crisis which led to a stroke and brain damage, according to the complaint.
Ahmad Sawah seeks damages for medical expenses, loss of earning capacity and prejudgment interest. He is represented by Chynthia Chihak, Amy Rose Martel and Nathan G. Batterman of Chihak & Martel in San Diego.
